Holi is a religious Festival of Hindus. It is the festival of Colours which comes in the Spring season.
Holi is mainly a two festival first day is Holika Dahan and the second day is Dhulendi or Dhulandi.
Holika Dahan is celebrated on the Full moon day of Phalguna (Phalguna is the last month of winters according to the hindu calender )

Holika was the sister of king of Hiranyakashipu ( click here to know the story of Hiranyakashipu)
. Holika had a boon that fire can never burn her . Prahlada was the son of Hiranyakashipu and a great devotee of Lord Vishnu . Hiranyakashipu was a deamon king who hates Vishnu. Despite of his all efforts to kill Prahlada ,he convinced his sister to sit in fire with Prahlada. Prahalad also accepted his fathers order and sat on a pyre with Holika. Surprisingly Holika was burnt to death and Prahalad was un harmed. the burning of Holika is celebrated as Holika dahan. Prahalad was saved by lord Vishnu’s Grace.

The story of Shiva and Kamadev, the God of Love. Kamadeva tried to help Goddess Parvati (wife of lord Shiva) . Kamadev shot his arrow in order to disturb Siva’s meditation and to make Shiva merry Parvati. Shiva opened his third eye and gaze of the third eye burned Kamadev into ashes. Rati was the wife of Kamadev who begged Shiva for Kamadev during Parvati and Shiva’s Marriage. for Rati ,Shiva restored Kamadeva as a Virtual image with true emotions.
InMathura and Vrindavan where , the Holi festival is celebrated for 2 weeks (until Rangpanchmi) in commemoration of the divine love of Radha for Krishna.
